Different types of schools have different costs associated with them. A regional school costs less than a research university. Tuition costs for state residents are always lower than out-of-state tuition. In addition to the 43 public colleges and universities across Oklahoma, there are also 16 private and proprietary colleges. The costs for these schools are higher than a state research school, even for residents.
Begin your college search close to home. Then if a school out of state offers a specialized degree that can not be obtained in state, evaluate that option as well. But remember, most employers are not concerned with where you received your degree, only that you had the discipline to achieve one.
The cost of the school does not affect the amount your family is expected to contribute. It does, however, affect the amount of money you may be awarded in terms of financial aid. For more about financial aid, go to Types of Aid.

*Note: Room and board estimates are based on a student living in a traditional dormitory with a roommate and participating in a 20-meal-per-week plan. Many institutions offer a wide variety of room and board plans, and costs may differ from the average reported above.
